Website redesign / Post-launch support

What support does a website need after a redesign?

Separate launch stabilization, defect cover, routine maintenance, content help, and improvement so the website has clear ownership after release.

Plan a launch stabilization period

The first support period should focus on confirming that the released website behaves as approved in production. Monitor forms, analytics, redirects, search visibility, integrations, performance, error reports, and important customer journeys.

Define who reviews each signal, how issues are recorded, and which problems require immediate action. A launch checklist is not complete until the business knows how to detect and route a problem after the site becomes public.

Separate warranty, maintenance, and improvement

Warranty covers defects in agreed work. Maintenance keeps the technical foundation healthy through updates, backups, monitoring, and routine checks. Content support helps the team publish or change material. Improvement work changes the experience based on new needs or evidence.

These categories have different priorities, skills, and commercial models. Naming them prevents every request from being treated as either a free defect or a large new project.

Assign operational ownership

Document who owns hosting, domains, licences, analytics, forms, integrations, consent tools, backups, security updates, content approval, and supplier access. Record renewal dates and recovery methods in a place controlled by the business.

If the internal team will maintain content, include training and concise documentation. If an external partner will make changes, define the request channel, response expectations, access rules, and approval process.

Use evidence to prioritize changes

Keep the measurement plan created for the redesign. Confirm that important events remain reliable, allow normal variation to settle, and review complete journeys rather than reacting to a single number. The guide to measuring website redesign success explains how to connect the baseline to business outcomes.

Combine quantitative signals with sales feedback, support questions, search behavior, and observed usability issues. Turn the strongest evidence into a prioritized improvement backlog with a named owner.

Write a practical support agreement

  • Coverage: define systems, environments, tasks, and exclusions.
  • Priority: distinguish outages, defects, routine requests, and enhancements.
  • Response: state communication channels and realistic service windows.
  • Access: keep business-owned accounts and controlled supplier permissions.
  • Budget: separate included support, retained capacity, and quoted changes.
Post-launch support begins before launch

Ownership, monitoring, documentation, and response rules should be part of the redesign scope, not negotiated after the first problem appears.
