How to Plan an Accounting Firm Website
An accounting firm website should help the right client understand whether the firm handles their needs, trust its expertise, and take a sensible next step without decoding a list of technical services.
Define the clients and work the firm wants
Start with the firm’s commercial priorities: client size, industries, locations, recurring services, specialist assignments, and the work it does not want to attract. A startup choosing its first accountant asks different questions from an established company considering audit, tax, payroll, or outsourced finance support.
Use those differences to create a small number of clear journeys. Avoid turning every minor service variation into a page. Group related work where the buyer’s problem, evidence, and next step are the same, then make important eligibility limits visible before someone submits an enquiry.
Structure services around buyer questions
For each priority service, explain who it is for, what business situation usually triggers it, what the engagement may include, what information is needed, and how the first conversation works. Technical accuracy matters, but plain English helps a decision-maker recognise fit faster than an internal service taxonomy.
Connect sector pages only when the firm has genuinely distinct expertise or requirements to explain. The guide to structuring service pages is a useful starting point for keeping the offer specific without creating a maze of thin pages.
Build confidence with precise, maintainable proof
Show relevant qualifications, memberships, leadership profiles, office coverage, working methods, and representative experience that the firm is permitted to publish. Explain how the team communicates, what clients are expected to provide, and who owns the relationship. Specific process detail is more useful than unsupported claims about being trusted or leading.
Create an approval process for regulated wording, credentials, tax-year content, deadlines, and team information. Assign an owner and review cadence to each time-sensitive section so an accurate launch does not become an outdated website six months later.
Design a secure and useful enquiry path
Offer a clear route for prospective clients, existing clients, careers, and general queries. The initial form should collect enough information to route the enquiry without inviting sensitive financial records through an ordinary contact form. Explain what happens next, expected response timing, and which documents should only be exchanged through an approved secure channel.
Test forms, notifications, consent wording, mobile completion, spam controls, analytics, and internal ownership. A strong website does not end at submission: define who reviews each enquiry, how it reaches the right partner or team, and what happens when the primary recipient is unavailable.
