How to Plan a Venture Capital Firm Website

A venture capital website has to help founders judge fit quickly while giving investors, portfolio teams, recruits, and media an accurate view of the firm. The plan should make the investment thesis useful without turning it into vague brand language.

Define founder fit precisely

State the stages, sectors, geographies, cheque context, ownership approach, and situations the firm can genuinely support. Explain where the thesis is flexible and where it is not. Founders should be able to decide whether to continue without translating slogans or reading every portfolio announcement.

Organise the core pages around the decisions a founder makes: whether the firm invests at this stage, understands this market, can contribute relevant support, and is open to a conversation now. Keep fund-specific or regulated information clearly separated and reviewed by the appropriate advisers.

Make the portfolio useful evidence

Let visitors filter or scan portfolio companies by themes that matter to the investment thesis, not decorative categories. Each profile should use confirmed facts, link to the company, identify the relationship accurately, and distinguish current from exited investments without implying unavailable performance data.

Selected stories can explain why a market mattered, what the founders were building, and how the firm contributed when that information is approved. Use the principles in the guide to planning website case studies to avoid unsupported outcomes or inflated attribution.

Show how the team helps

Give each investor and operating partner a focused profile covering relevant experience, areas of interest, portfolio involvement, and a direct route to credible public work. Avoid biographies that list prestige without helping a founder understand who will engage before and after investment.

Explain the firm's working model in concrete terms: how decisions are made, what diligence usually involves, and what support is available after investment. If the model differs by stage or fund, make those distinctions visible instead of presenting one universal process.

Design a responsible contact route

Ask founders for only the information needed to route an introduction: company, market, stage, location, current objective, and a link to materials they choose to share. State who reviews submissions, expected response boundaries, and whether confidential information should be withheld at this stage.

Provide separate routes for portfolio support, limited-partner enquiries, careers, media, and general contact. Measure qualified founder submissions, portfolio-profile engagement, thesis-page paths, and contact outcomes so the site can improve without turning founder browsing into an opaque scoring exercise.

Make the thesis easier to act on
