How to Plan a Franchise Website
A franchise website must serve customers, local operators, and prospective franchisees without turning the brand into disconnected local pages. Plan the shared system and local responsibilities together.
Separate customer and franchisee journeys
Define the primary customer tasks first: find a nearby location, understand available services or products, check opening details, book, request a quote, or contact support. Keep franchise recruitment as a clearly labelled journey with its own proposition, qualification information, process, and enquiry route.
Do not make customers choose between corporate language and franchise terminology. Use the words they know, then explain ownership or service boundaries only where those details affect the experience.
Give every location useful, governed content
Each active location should have one dependable page with its name, address, service area, hours, contact details, available services, accessibility information, relevant proof, and a clear action. The broader guide to multi-location website planning covers the foundation for findability without thin location pages.
Define which fields are controlled centrally and which local teams may edit. Local stories and offers can add value, but core claims, design components, legal wording, and service definitions usually need brand-level governance.
Route leads and transactions to the right operator
Decide how postcode search, location selection, booking, ecommerce, quote requests, calls, and general enquiries are assigned. Show the selected location throughout a journey so people know who will fulfil the promise. Plan fallbacks for closed territories, overlapping coverage, and enquiries without a clear postcode.
Test notifications, CRM ownership, duplicate handling, response expectations, analytics, and consent. A polished form is not enough if the lead reaches an unattended inbox or the wrong franchisee.
Build a publishing and accountability model
Create a source of truth for location data and decide how openings, closures, temporary hours, services, staff changes, and promotions reach the website. Give every editable field an owner, approval rule, and review cadence.
Track customer actions by location and journey without creating conflicting analytics setups. Review location completeness, broken booking routes, stale offers, and unanswered enquiries routinely so the network remains consistent as it grows.
