Hiring / Studio selection

How to choose a web design studio.

Choose the team that can understand the problem, define the work clearly, and deliver a website your business can operate.

By Northform

Start with the kind of problem you need solved

A studio known for campaign landing pages may not be the right partner for a product catalogue or customer portal. Describe the business, audience, website role, and constraints before judging visual style.

Look for relevant thinking rather than an identical past project. A useful portfolio explains the problem, important decisions, and what was actually delivered.

Ask how decisions are made

Find out who will lead discovery, design, development, and communication. Ask when you will review work, how feedback is collected, and who resolves conflicts between business, content, design, and technical requirements.

A clear process should help you make decisions. It should not require you to translate between several disconnected specialists.

Compare the scope line by line

  1. Pages and reusable templates
  2. Content strategy, writing, entry, and migration
  3. Responsive design and interaction states
  4. Development platform and integrations
  5. Testing, analytics, redirects, and launch
  6. Ownership, documentation, support, and exclusions

Read proof carefully

Separate client results from studio-built examples. A polished concept demonstrates craft, but it does not prove a revenue increase. A case study with measured outcomes should explain what was measured and over what period.

Northform labels interactive portfolio work as studio-built examples so you can inspect the interface without mistaking it for a client performance claim. Explore the portfolio.

Use the first conversation as evidence

Notice whether the studio asks about the business problem before suggesting a solution. You should leave the conversation with a clearer understanding of the project, even if you do not proceed.

A useful final question

Ask: “What would you need to learn before you could recommend the right scope?” The answer reveals whether the studio plans to diagnose the problem or sell a preset package.

Plan the next step

See if Northform fits your project.

Describe the business goal and the website you need. You will speak directly with the person planning, designing, and building it.
